What You'll Be Doing:

Lead the Transformation in Oncology Care

As an Oncology Medical Director at Evolent, you will be at the forefront of redefining care delivery for cancer patients. In this dynamic role, you will advance value-based care models that prioritize clinical excellence, patient-centered outcomes, and impactful system-wide changes. Collaborate with leading clinicians, influence care pathways, and drive innovation in a vital area of healthcare. If you are passionate about making a significant difference in oncology, this role will empower you to lead with purpose.

This position merges your clinical oncology expertise with a focus on value-based strategy and transformation. Unlike traditional roles that emphasize throughput, this role integrates utilization management with collaborative engagement and innovation.

Core Responsibilities:
• Clinical Review & Peer Collaboration
• Act as the physician reviewer for oncology cases that initially do not meet medical necessity criteria, applying evidence-based guidelines to ensure high-quality and cost-effective care.
• Engage in peer-to-peer discussions with oncologists to explain determinations while partnering in aligning practice patterns with value and quality outcomes.
• Serve as a knowledge resource for clinical reviewers.
• Practice & Physician Engagement
• Participate in engagement sessions with oncology practices, sharing best practices and supporting the adoption of evidence-based pathways.
• Build trusted relationships with oncologists to promote sustainable behavior changes that enhance patient outcomes.
• Support initiatives that transform practice-level processes to reduce unnecessary variation and increase quality.
• Internal Strategy & Value Initiatives
• Collaborate with clinical leadership on the design, build, and execution of new oncology value initiatives.
• Provide insights on innovation opportunities, clinical algorithms, and models of care that facilitate transformation in specialty care.
• Work with operational and analytic teams to evaluate the impact of interventions and identify persistent opportunities for improvement.
• Engage in audit processes to ensure the accuracy of advance payment model payouts, validating alignment with clinical documentation, performance metrics, and contractual expectations.
• Compliance & Quality
• Ensure that all reviews and engagements comply with URAC, NCQA, and internal quality standards.
• Document peer interactions and clinical decisions accurately and promptly.
• Participate in training and inter-rater reliability activities.

Qualifications:
• MD/DO/MBBS with board certification in Medical Oncology or Pediatric Oncology.
• Minimum five (5) years of post-residency experience, with preferred active clinical practice within the past two years.
• Possess a current, unrestricted medical license (multiple state licenses preferred or willingness to obtain).
• Demonstrated leadership in practice transformation, value-based care, or clinical quality improvement.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, with a proven ability to influence physician behavior.
• Energy, curiosity, and a passion for shaping the future of oncology care delivery.
• Not under sanction or exclusion from Medicare/Medicaid programs.

To ensure a secure hiring process, we have implemented identity verification steps, including submission of a government-issued photo ID. Identity verification occurs during interviews, and final interviews may require onsite attendance. All candidates must undergo a comprehensive background check, in-person I-9 verification, and may be subject to drug screening before employment. Misrepresentation will result in immediate disqualification.

Technical Requirements:

All employees must have the following technical capabilities at their home: high-speed internet over 10 Mbps and, specifically for call center roles, the ability to connect directly to the home internet router.
