What You'll Be Doing:
Lead the Transformation in Oncology Care
At Evolent, we're revolutionizing oncology care delivery for individuals battling cancer. In the role of Performance Suite Medical Director in Medical Oncology, you will be integral to advancing value-based care models that emphasize clinical excellence, patient-centered outcomes, and a widespread impact. This position allows you to collaborate with leading clinicians, shape care pathways, and foster innovation in this crucial sector of health care. If you are driven to make a meaningful impact in oncology, this is your platform to lead with purpose.
Here, you will harness your clinical oncology expertise while focusing on value-based strategy and transformation. Unlike traditional roles heavily centered on volume, this position merges utilization management with collaborative engagement and innovation.
Core Responsibilities
• Clinical Review & Peer Collaboration
• Serve as a physician reviewer for oncology cases that initially do not meet medical necessity criteria, applying evidence-based guidelines to ensure high-quality and cost-effective care.
• Engage in peer-to-peer discussions with requesting oncologists to not only explain determinations but to collaborate in shifting practice patterns towards value and quality outcomes.
• Act as a subject matter expert and resource for clinical reviewers.
• Practice & Physician Engagement
• Participate in engagement sessions with oncology practices, sharing best clinical practices and promoting wider adoption of evidence-based pathways.
• Build trustworthy relationships with oncologists to inspire sustainable behavior changes that enhance patient outcomes.
• Support practice-level transformation projects aimed at reducing unnecessary variation and improving quality.
• Internal Strategy & Value Initiatives
• Work together with Evolent's clinical leadership on the design, build, and execution of innovative value initiatives in oncology.
• Provide insights on innovation opportunities, clinical algorithms, and models of care that enable advancements in specialty care.
• Collaborate with operational and analytic teams to evaluate the impact of interventions and identify ongoing improvement opportunities.
• Take part in audit processes to ensure payouts from advance payment models align with clinical documentation, performance metrics, and contractual obligations.
• Compliance & Quality
• Ensure all reviews and engagements comply with URAC, NCQA, and internal quality standards.
• Document peer interactions and clinical decisions promptly and accurately.
• Engage in training and inter-rater reliability processes.
Qualifications
• MD/DO/MBBS with board certification in Medical Oncology or Pediatric Oncology.
• Minimum five (5) years post-residency experience, with active clinical practice preferred within the last 2 years.
• Current, unrestricted medical license (multiple state licenses preferred or willingness to obtain).
• Proven leadership in practice transformation, value-based care, or clinical quality improvement.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, with a track record of influencing physician behavior.
• Enthusiastic, curious, and passionate about shaping the future of oncology care delivery.
• Not under sanction or exclusion from Medicare/Medicaid programs.
To ensure a secure hiring process, we have implemented several identity verification steps, including presentation of a government-issued photo ID. We conduct identity verification during interviews, and final interviews may necessitate onsite attendance. All candidates must complete a comprehensive background check, in-person I-9 verification, and may be subject to drug screening prior to employment. The use of artificial intelligence tools during interviews is prohibited and monitored. Misrepresentation will result in immediate disqualification from consideration.
Technical Requirements:
All employees are required to have the following technical capabilities at home: high-speed internet of over 10 Mbps and, specifically for all call center employees, the ability to connect directly to the home internet router.
Evolent is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or disability status.
