What You'll Be Doing:
Lead the Transformation in Oncology Care
At Evolent, we're revolutionizing oncology care delivery. As a Performance Suite Medical Director in Medical Oncology, you will have a crucial role in advancing value-based care models focusing on clinical excellence and patient-centered outcomes. This position provides an opportunity to collaborate with top clinicians, shape care pathways, and drive innovation in critical healthcare areas. If you are committed to making a significant impact in oncology, this is your opportunity to lead with purpose.
In this role, you will blend your clinical oncology expertise with a focus on value-based strategy and transformation. Unlike standard medical review roles centered on volume, this position integrates utilization management with collaborative engagement and innovative practices.
Core Responsibilities
• Clinical Review & Peer Collaboration

• Act as the physician reviewer for oncology cases that initially do not meet medical necessity criteria, applying evidence-based guidelines to ensure high-quality, cost-effective care.

• Engage in peer-to-peer discussions with requesting oncologists to explain determinations and collaborate on aligning practice patterns with value and quality outcomes.

• Provide support to clinical reviewers as a subject matter expert and a valuable resource.

• Practice & Physician Engagement

• Proactively participate in engagement sessions with oncology practices, sharing best clinical practices and promoting the broader adoption of evidence-based pathways.

• Build trusted peer relationships with oncologists to foster sustainable behavior change that improves patient care.

• Support practice-level transformation initiatives that minimize unwarranted variation and enhance quality.

• Internal Strategy & Value Initiatives

• Work closely with Evolent’s clinical leadership on the design, development, and execution of new value initiatives in oncology.

• Provide input on innovation opportunities, clinical algorithms, and models of care that facilitate transformation in specialty care.

• Collaborate with operational and analytic teams to assess the impact of interventions and identify ways for ongoing improvement.

• Engage in audit processes to verify the accuracy of advanced payment model payouts, ensuring alignment with clinical documentation and performance metrics.

• Compliance & Quality

• Ensure all reviews and engagements comply with URAC, NCQA, and internal quality standards.

• Document peer interactions and clinical decisions accurately and promptly.

• Participate in training and inter-rater reliability processes.

Qualifications
• MD/DO/MBBS with board certification in Medical Oncology or Pediatric Oncology.

• Minimum five (5) years of post-residency experience, with active clinical practice preferred within the past two years.

• Current, unrestricted medical license (multiple state licenses preferred or a willingness to obtain).

• Proven leadership in practice transformation, value-based care, or clinical quality improvement.

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, with a strong ability to influence physician behavior.

• Energetic, curious, and passionate about shaping the future of oncology care delivery.

• Not under sanction or exclusion from Medicare/Medicaid programs.

To ensure a secure hiring process, we have implemented several identity verification steps, including submitting a government-issued photo ID. Identity verification occurs during interviews, and final interviews may require onsite attendance. All candidates must complete a comprehensive background check, in-person I-9 verification, and may be subject to drug screening before employment. The use of artificial intelligence tools during interviews is prohibited and monitored. Misrepresentation will result in immediate disqualification from consideration.
