The Nursing Specialist - Oncology is responsible for assessing patient conditions, administering oncology-related treatments, monitoring patient responses, and collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The Nursing Specialist - Oncology works closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, and clinical staff to develop and implement individualized care plans that support treatment goals and patient well-being.
The Nursing Specialist - Oncology provides direct patient care while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, safety standards, and evidence-based oncology practices. The Nursing Specialist - Oncology must demonstrate clinical expertise, compassion, emotional resilience, and strong communication skills while caring for patients experiencing complex medical challenges.
Responsibilities:
• Provide specialized nursing care for oncology patients throughout treatment and recovery processes.
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and document clinical findings accurately.
• Administer medications, therapies, infusions, and oncology-related treatments according to established protocols.
• Monitor patient conditions and identify changes requiring medical intervention.
• Collaborate with physicians and healthcare professionals regarding treatment planning and patient progress.
• Educate patients and caregivers about treatment plans, medications, side effect management, and supportive care strategies.
• Monitor treatment responses and communicate concerns to clinical leadership.
• Maintain accurate patient records and clinical documentation.
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention procedures and healthcare safety regulations.
• Assist with symptom management and supportive oncology interventions.
• Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and clinical case discussions.
• Support patient navigation through complex oncology care processes.
• Advocate for patient safety, comfort, and emotional well-being.
• Participate in continuing education and oncology nursing development initiatives.
• Maintain professional nursing standards and clinical excellence.
Education:
• Associate's Degree in nursing or Graduate of accredited/approved school of nursing Required
• Bachelor's Degree Nursing Preferred
• Required Minimum Experience
• Less than 1 year Completion of accredited/ approved school of nursing with requisition clinical hours Required
• direct patient care experience Preferred
• Required Minimum Skills Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)
• Reg Nurse (Single State) Required
• RN - Multi-state Compact Required
• Basic Life Support Required
• BLS - Instructor Required
• BLS - Provisional Required
