Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and highly motivated Nurse Practitioner to join the Hematology/Oncology department at Novellis Health. The Hematology/Oncology NP delivers specialized care to patients with benign hematologic conditions, hematologic malignancies, and solid tumors, partnering with our physicians and multidisciplinary team throughout each patient's diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday. We are open to either a five-day-per-week schedule (8-hour days) or a four-day-per-week schedule (10-hour shifts).

Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct comprehensive assessments, including patient history, physical examination, and interpretation of laboratory, pathology, and imaging results, for patients with benign hematologic disorders, hematologic malignancies, and solid tumors
• Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with hematologists, oncologists, and the multidisciplinary care team
• Manage benign hematologic conditions such as anemia, iron deficiency, thrombocytopenia, and bleeding and clotting disorders, as well as hematologic and solid tumor malignancies
• Prescribe and adjust medications, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, anticoagulants, supportive care medications, and pain management regimens, within scope of practice
• Order laboratory and imaging studies and evaluate treatment response, tolerance, and disease progression
• Coordinate longitudinal care for patients receiving infusion-based therapies such as transfusions, iron infusions, chemotherapy, and targeted therapies
• Monitor for adverse events and treatment complications, and promptly address urgent clinical issues
• Manage acute and chronic symptoms related to disease and treatment side effects
• Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment options, medication management, side effect management, and survivorship care
• Coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team, including social workers, nutritionists, pharmacists, palliative care specialists, and referring providers
• Participate in tumor boards and hematology case conferences, and contribute to treatment planning discussions
• Document patient encounters accurately and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements
• Mentor nursing staff and participate in quality improvement, clinical protocol development, and staff education initiatives
• Stay current with hematology and oncology research, clinical trials, and evidence-based practice guidelines
Patient Care:
• Oversee and, as appropriate, administer chemotherapy, blood transfusions, iron infusions, and other therapies as prescribed.
• Provide emotional and psychosocial support to patients and their families.
• Participate in patient rounds.
• Perform procedures such as venipuncture, injections, and dressing changes.
Administrative Responsibilities:
• Maintain accurate and timely medical records in iKnowMed Generation 2 and DrChrono.
• Assist with the coordination of patient care, including scheduling appointments and referrals.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program; Master's or Doctorate degree required.
• Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of New York.
• National certification as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner required.
• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP), or hematology certification preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in hematology, oncology, or a related field highly preferred.
• Knowledge of benign and malignant hematology, chemotherapy and immunotherapy management, and transfusion medicine.
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
• Proficiency in electronic medical records systems; experience with iKnowMed Generation 2 and DrChrono preferred.
• Availability to work Monday through Friday, either five days per week or four 10-hour shifts.
• BLS & ACLS certification is required.
