Role Description The Nurse Practitioner will provide direct patient care in an oncology and hematology setting, including conducting comprehensive assessments, reviewing medical histories, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating treatment plans in collaboration with physicians. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing chemotherapy and other treatment regimens, monitoring patient responses and side effects, providing education on diagnoses, therapies, and symptom management, and coordinating care across the continuum of outpatient services. The role also involves prescribing medications as appropriate, documenting care in the electronic health record, participating in case discussions, and supporting quality improvement initiatives within the practice. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Milford, CT, requiring consistent presence in the clinic to support patients and the care team.
Qualifications
• Current Nurse Practitioner license and board certification (AGNP, FNP, or relevant NP specialty), with eligibility to practice in Connecticut.
• Clinical experience in oncology, hematology, or a related acute care setting, including familiarity with chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and supportive care protocols.
• Strong assessment, diagnostic, and clinical decision-making skills, including the ability to interpret labs, imaging, and other diagnostic results.
• Proficiency in patient education and counseling, with the ability to explain complex medical information clearly and support patients and families through challenging decisions.
• Effective collaboration skills for working with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team.
• Competence in electronic health record documentation, basic computer skills, and adherence to regulatory, safety, and infection control standards.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management abilities, with attention to detail and a focus on quality, safety, and patient-centered care.
• Master’s degree or higher in Nursing from an accredited program; oncology certification (such as AOCNP) is preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development, participation in continuing education, and openness to evidence-based practice changes.
