Job Description
Position Summary
Larkin Community Hospital South Miami Campus is seeking a qualified and compassionate Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our Nuclear Medicine Department.
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures in accordance with physician orders, established departmental protocols, regulatory requirements, and hospital policies. The technologist prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals, operates specialized nuclear medicine imaging equipment, obtains high-quality diagnostic images, performs appropriate quality-control procedures, and provides safe and professional patient care throughout the examination.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, commitment to radiation safety, and the ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, radiologists, and other members of the healthcare team.
Education Requirements:
• Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program required.
• Associate degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiologic Technology, or a related field from an accredited institution required.
• Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiologic Sciences, or a related healthcare field preferred.
Licensure and Certification Requirements:
• Current and active State of Florida License as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
• Current national certification/registration in Nuclear Medicine Technology through one of the following:
• Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) – Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT); or
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) – Nuclear Medicine Technology, R.T.(N).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or other hospital-approved provider.
• Must maintain all licenses, registrations, and certifications required for the position throughout employment.
• ARRT certification in Computed Tomography, R.T.(CT).
• NMTCB PET certification or other recognized PET credential.
• Formal PET/CT training and documented equipment-specific competency.
• ACLS certification when applicable to assigned procedures and patient population.
Experience Requirements:
• Minimum of one (1) year of clinical Nuclear Medicine Technologist experience preferred.
• Previous acute-care hospital experience preferred.
• Experience with general nuclear medicine procedures, nuclear cardiology, SPECT, and SPECT/CT preferred.
• PET/CT experience preferred if applicable to departmental operations.
• New graduates who meet all required licensure and certification requirements may be considered based on departmental needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Nuclear medicine imaging principles and procedures.
• Nuclear medicine physics and instrumentation.
• Radiopharmaceutical preparation, handling, administration, and disposal.
• Radiation biology and radiation protection principles.
• Gamma camera and SPECT imaging.
• Image acquisition, processing, reconstruction, and quality assessment.
• Nuclear cardiology procedures.
• Equipment quality control and quality assurance.
• Patient assessment and monitoring.
• Medication and radiopharmaceutical administration within the authorized scope of practice.
• Infection prevention and standard precautions.
• Patient identification and patient safety practices.
• Emergency procedures and basic life support.
• Electronic medical records and imaging/PACS systems.
• Federal, state, and institutional radiation-safety requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds and age groups.
• Ability to explain procedures clearly and alleviate patient anxiety.
• Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
• Ability to prioritize multiple examinations and respond appropriately to changes in workload or patient condition.
