Multi-Axis CNC Milling Specialist (Okuma FMC)

Step into a day on our production floor

It’s the start of your shift at Hirsh Precision on Colorado’s Front Range. The Fastems cell is queued, and your Okuma milling center is ready for the next job. You open our proprietary system to review on-screen work instructions, study the blueprint, verify tooling, and confirm fixtures for a smooth production run. You move seamlessly between 4-axis and 5-axis operations, monitor quality at the machine, and partner with teammates to keep parts flowing.

When it’s time to check dimensions, you reach for micrometers, calipers, and gauges, and you review Zeiss CMM reports (Calypso) inside 1Factory. You document findings, communicate clearly, and keep safety at the forefront. As the handoff approaches, you update the next machinist and leave the cell set up for success.

The role

We’re hiring a CNC machinist to operate within a flexible manufacturing cell that includes several Okuma milling centers. You’ll run multi-axis mills, execute production setups, and ensure parts meet spec through meticulous inspection.

Shifts

• First and Second shifts available
• Night shift earns a 10% premium above the standard hourly rate

What you’ll do

• Operate 4-axis and 5-axis CNC mills within an FMC environment
• Follow blueprints and digital work instructions in our proprietary software
• Perform and optimize machine setups for production runs
• Interpret engineering drawings to determine inspection requirements
• Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, and gauges; review CMM results
• Collaborate in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting while adhering to safety policies
• Communicate clearly in writing and verbally; document findings using Office 365

What you bring

• Comfort operating multi-axis mills (4- and 5-axis)
• Quality inspection experience and a strong eye for detail
• Experience setting up machines for production
• General knowledge of CNC production and inspection practices
• Familiarity with Office 365 (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Willingness to share ideas that drive continuous improvement

Bonus points

• Hands-on time with Okuma CNC mills
• Exposure to Fastems FPC or similar automated machining systems
• Experience working with and interpreting CMM inspections
