Moran Amit։ Opportunities For Career-Defining Work in Cancer Neuroscience and Emerging Areas

Moran Amit, Co-Director Of The Neuroscience Program At UT MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Houston Graduate School Of Biomedical Sciences, Assistant Professor At MD Anderson Cancer Center, Shared a Post On LinkedIn

“Today marks the start of something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time.

As of July 1, I’m honored to step into the role of Co-Director of the Neuroscience Program at the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Houston Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

Faculty Research Areas

To the students – this one is really for you.

We are training neuroscientists at the only cancer-focused university in the world. That is not a small thing. Where else can a PhD student studying synaptic remodeling, glial biology, or neuroplasticity walk down the hall and collaborate with a neuro-oncologist, a head and neck surgeon, a pain specialist, or an immunotherapy trialist – all under one roof – and connect their science directly to a patient sitting in a clinic? That is the singular privilege of this institution, and it is something I intend to lean into fully in this role.

My goal as co-director is to help build a program where trainees are challenged intellectually, supported personally, and connected to the kind of science that genuinely moves the needle for patients.

Whether your interest is in cancer neuroscience, neuroinflammation, sensory biology, or emerging areas like neuroplasticity and novel therapeutics – there is space here for ambitious, curious minds to do career-defining work.

I’m grateful to the GSBS leadership, my faculty colleagues, and the trainees who inspire this work every day. If you’re a prospective or current student excited about neuroscience at the clinical-translational interface, I’d love to connect.

The nervous system is at the center of everything. Let’s figure it out together.”
