Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Medicinal Chemist Associate to join our dynamic Drug Discovery team in Mobile, Alabama. This pivotal role involves contributing to the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel small molecules for various therapeutic targets. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, applying principles of medicinal chemistry to advance our pipeline from hit identification through lead optimization. Key Responsibilities
• Design and execute multi-step organic synthesis of target compounds with appropriate analytical characterization (NMR, MS, HPLC).
• Analyze SAR data to guide design cycles and optimize compounds for potency, selectivity, and ADME properties.
• Collaborate closely with biology, DMPK, and computational chemistry teams to integrate data and drive project progression.
• Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures, results, and analyses in electronic lab notebooks.
• Present research findings and progress to project teams and management.
• Stay current with scientific literature and new technologies in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery.
Required Skills
• PhD in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related field (or MS with 2+ years industry experience).
• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry, including reaction mechanisms and retrosynthetic analysis.
• Proficiency in purification techniques (e.g., flash chromatography, preparative HPLC) and spectroscopic characterization (NMR, MS).
• Demonstrated ability to independently design and execute complex synthetic routes.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and critical thinking.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Postdoctoral experience in medicinal chemistry or industrial experience in drug discovery.
• Experience with structure-based drug design and ligand-based design principles.
• Familiarity with interpreting in vitro and in vivo ADME data.
• Knowledge of computational chemistry tools and software.
• Prior experience working in a team-oriented drug discovery environment.
