Job Summary and Responsibilities
The Med/Surg Oncology Nurse Leader is responsible for ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care through effective oversight of unit operations, staffing, and nursing care delivery. In this role, you'll monitor compliance with established policies and procedures while holding staff accountable for achieving clinical outcomes.
• Operationalize evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety and quality outcomes, ensuring adherence to care standards.
• Possess understanding of human growth and development, assessment, treatments, and care relevant to the patient populations served.
• Manage staffing requirements, including interviewing, hiring, and training new staff members.
• Oversee patient care on the unit, providing support and expertise to the nursing staff.
• Maintain unit workflow by ensuring adequate staff levels.
• Coordinate unit activities, including safety procedures, goal setting, and departmental operations.
• Address patient, visitor, or physician complaints promptly and professionally.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and counseling to department employees.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to enhance patient care delivery.
Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing required (must be obtained within two years of hire); Master's in Nursing preferred.
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) required.
• Minimum of two years of demonstrated leadership experience required; four years of related clinical experience strongly preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• BCLS certification required.
• Certification in area of specialty preferred.
• ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification preferred upon hire or within one year of hire.
