Role Description The Medical Physicist is a full-time, on-site role based at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center in Long Beach, CA. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy by providing expertise in treatment planning, dosimetry, and radiation safety. Day-to-day tasks include calibrating and maintaining radiotherapy equipment, verifying treatment plans, performing quality assurance tests, and conducting patient-specific dose calculations. The Medical Physicist collaborates closely with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, therapists, and other team members to optimize treatment protocols and implement new technologies and techniques. The role also involves maintaining regulatory compliance, documenting procedures, and contributing to staff education and training on radiation safety and best practices.
Qualifications
• Strong foundation in Medical Physics and Physics, with the ability to apply scientific principles to clinical radiation oncology settings.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Treatment Planning and Dosimetry, including patient-specific dose calculations and plan verification.
• Comprehensive understanding of Radiation Safety, including compliance with regulatory standards and implementation of safety protocols.
• Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and quality assurance skills, with attention to detail in equipment calibration and data review.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with multidisciplinary clinical staff and support patient-centered care.
• Master’s or doctoral degree in Medical Physics or a related field; board certification or board eligibility in therapeutic medical physics (e.g., ABR) preferred.
• Experience in a clinical radiation oncology environment and familiarity with modern treatment modalities and planning systems are highly beneficial.
• Commitment to continuing education, staying current with emerging technologies, and participating in process improvement initiatives.
