Job Description
## About This Opportunity
Aetna, a CVS Health Company and Fortune 6 company, is seeking a Medical Director specializing in Otolaryngology (ENT). This is a fully remote position based anywhere in the United States. You'll join one of the oldest and largest national insurers with a unique opportunity to help transform healthcare by building a world of health around every individual.
We believe that a better care system is more transparent and consumer-focused, and it recognizes physicians for their clinical quality and effective use of health care resources. This role offers the chance to expand Aetna's medical management programs while supporting meaningful clinical work.
## What You'll Do
As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) with a background in Otolaryngology, you'll play a central role in our medical management operations. You'll expand Aetna's medical management programs to address member needs across the continuum of care while supporting the Medical Management staff to ensure timely and consistent responses to members and providers.
You'll lead all aspects of utilization review and quality assurance, directing case management efforts and providing clinical expertise and business direction in support of medical management programs through participation in clinical team activities. Acting as a lead business and clinical liaison to network providers and facilities, you'll support the effective execution of medical services programs by our clinical teams.
Your responsibilities include conducting predetermination reviews and claim determination reviews, providing clinical, coding, and reimbursement expertise as needed. This work directly impacts how we serve our members and support our provider networks.
## What We're Looking For
You must hold an M.D. or D.O. with Board Certification in Otolaryngology and possess at least 2 or more years of experience in a health care delivery system—whether through clinical practice or work in the health care industry. Post-graduate direct patient care experience in ENT is specifically required.
An active and current state medical license without encumbrances is essential. Previous utilization management (UM) experience with a health plan or payor is preferred and would be a valuable addition to your candidacy.
## Compensation and Benefits
The typical pay range for this role is $174,070.00 to $374,920.00 annually. This base salary range represents the typical compensation for all positions in this job grade; your actual offer will depend on a variety of factors including your experience, education, geography, and other relevant qualifications.
Beyond base salary, this position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission, or short-term incentive program, as well as an award target in our equity award program.
## What We Offer
This full-time position comes with a comprehensive benefits package designed to support the physical, emotional, and financial well-being of you and your family. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, retirement savings options, wellness programs, and other resources based on eligibility. Additional details about available benefits are provided during the application process.
Our employees are self-disciplined, hard working, curious, trustworthy, humble, and truthful—they make choices according to what is best for the team and live for opportunities to collaborate and make a difference. You'll be surrounded by passionate colleagues who care deeply, innovate with purpose, hold themselves accountable, and prioritize safety and quality in everything they do.
The application window for this opening is anticipated to close on 06/30/2026. Qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered for employment in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
