Medical Assistant (MA) – Oncology
Location: Multiple Locations Across Maryland
Position Type: Contract-to-Hire
Pay Rate: $15-$27/hour
Position Overview
NurseAmerica is seeking compassionate and dependable Medical Assistants (MA) to join a leading outpatient Oncology/Hematology practice with multiple locations across Maryland. We are hiring for opportunities across various clinics, with the potential to transition into a permanent position.
As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting physicians and clinical staff while providing exceptional care to oncology patients. This position is ideal for candidates who enjoy working in a fast-paced outpatient setting and are passionate about delivering quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
• Escort patients to and from exam and treatment rooms.
• Record patient information, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication updates.
• Prepare patients for physician examinations and clinical procedures.
• Assist physicians and clinical staff during exams and treatments.
• Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as delegated by the physician or Registered Nurse.
• Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam and treatment rooms.
• Obtain and organize patient medical records before appointments.
• Answer and triage patient phone calls, directing questions to the appropriate clinical staff.
• Process prescription refill requests and perform patient follow-up calls as directed.
• Assist with appointment scheduling, patient flow, and coordination of care.
• Perform administrative duties including chart preparation, filing, faxing, scanning, and other clerical support.
• Follow OSHA, infection control, and clinic safety protocols.
• Maintain accurate patient documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Provide compassionate and professional service to patients and their families.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent certification preferred.
• Current BLS certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire).
• 0-3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative outpatient clinical environment.
Work Environment
• Outpatient Oncology/Hematology Clinic.

• Exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous medications, ionizing radiation, and other conditions common to an oncology clinic.
