Job Description
Location: Northern
George Washington University Hospital seeks a Med Surg RN Oncology for full-time day shifts on a high-acuity oncology/medical-surgical unit. As part of a 395-bed academic medical center in Washington, DC, you will care for complex adult patients receiving cancer therapies and tertiary-level services. Responsibilities include comprehensive assessments, medication and chemotherapy administration (if certified), care coordination, and patient/family education. You will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with physicians, learners, and researchers, contributing to quality, safety, and evidence-based practice while advancing your skills in academic medicine.
• Deliver evidence-based med-surg oncology nursing care to a diverse adult patient population
• Administer medications, chemotherapy/biotherapy (if certified), and treatments safely and accurately
• Continuously assess, monitor, and document patient status using EHR systems
• Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary teams on care plans
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, and discharge plans
• Precept and mentor students and new staff in an academic teaching environment
• Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and evidence-based practice projects
• Support research activities and implementation of new protocols and technologies
• Advocate for patient safety, comfort, and culturally competent care
• Work rotating day shifts with occasional weekends/holidays as required by the unit
• Oncology nursing
