About The Role
The Lab Operations and Facilities Technicianprovides hands-on laboratory, and site operations support to ensurelaboratories operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with EHS andregulatory expectations. The role enables uninterrupted research activities bysupporting equipment readiness, lab safety programs, vendor coordination, andday-to-day operational needs.
This position serves as an operational liaison between lab users, EnvironmentalHealth & Safety (EHS), R&D Engineering Services (RDES), and externalservice providers.
This is a fully onsite role Monday- Friday inSan Diego, CA.
What You’ll Do
Laboratory Operations & Readiness
Maintain laboratory spaces in a clean,organized, and science-ready condition
Stock and manage laboratory consumables,including receipt, organization, and replenishment
Support chemical inventory management
Perform basic buffer and media preparation(Internal Note – this would be a bonus skill set but not mandatory)
Stock and maintain shared spaces such askitchens and breakrooms
Equipment & Asset Lifecycle Management
Support fixed asset management and servicecontracts for laboratory equipment
Support fixed asset management and servicecontracts for facilities equipment
Schedule and coordinate preventativemaintenance, repairs, and calibrations
Perform basic equipment troubleshooting androutine tasks such as freezer defrosting
Monitor laboratory gas levels and coordinategas cylinder changes
Vendor & Facilities Coordination
Act as a liaison between lab staff, EHS,Facilities, and other internal departments
Act as a liaison with landlord for facilitiesrequests and repairs
Provide oversight of facility services such aslab and office housekeeping, dry ice supply, waste management including generaland hazardous waste and lab coat program,
Provide oversight of GSK owned equipmentmaintenance including safety equipment maintenance (First Aid, AEDs, etc),portable nitrogen generators, gas supply safety valves etc.
Coordinate with external vendors such asjanitorial, lab garments suppliers, dry ice providers, waste managementproviders, service contractors, and building engineers
Coordinate cost estimates, purchase ordercreation and invoice approval for third party vendors.
Schedule, escort, and oversee third-partyvendors while on site
Provide clear communication and notificationsrelated to vendor activities
Lab Safety, EHS & Compliance
Support site laboratory safety programs andensure alignment with policies and regulations
Assist EHS with hazardous and biohazardousmaterial management
Provide oversight of the hazardous wastemanagement provider
Maintain PPE inventory and support emergencyequipment inspections
Prepare laboratories for audits, inspections,and site tours
Coordination, Documentation & Planning
Coordinate new hire lab workspace setup andonboarding support
Support the creation and maintenance of SOPs,work instructions, and site documentation
Assist with strategic planning for future spaceneeds, lab expansion, and relocations
Leadership Expectations (GSK Behaviors)
Comply with all site EHS policies, procedures,and training requirements
Use required PPE and follow safe work practicesat all times
Promptly report safety concerns, incidents, ordeviations
Support audit readiness and continuousimprovement activities
Demonstrates accountability for personal safetyand the safety of others
Collaborates effectively across functions andwith external partners
Supports a culture of quality, compliance, andcontinuous improvement

The compensation is about $131,000 annual base salary based on experience. The compensation offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications and experience.
