SUMMARY
The Department of Pediatrics Patient Care at UT MD Anderson is seeking an advanced scholar position, Instructor, Clinical Faculty Appointment to join the Neural Solid Tumor Team. The clinical faculty position will provide robust, inter-disciplinary Neural Solid Tumor to infants, children, adolescents, and AYAs suffering from life-threatening, life-limiting, and terminal diseases.
SCOPE
This clinical faculty position in the Division of Pediatrics will:
• Serve on institutional committees as requested by attending appropriate meetings, which may include walking to each meeting site. Listen to deliberations and provide verbal or written updates as necessary. Evaluate and summarize pertinent documents or proceedings that encompass committee functions.
• May assume other administrative responsibilities as requested by Department or Divisional officials
• Attend and participate in division/department teaching and continuing education conferences, which require verbal interaction with colleagues and walking to meeting locations throughout the campus.
• Serve as mentor/advisor for research and clinical trainees.
• Contribute to the educational objectives of the Department and assist in mentoring fellows, residents or other trainees who may rotate through the Division
• Effectively represent the Department and institution in local, regional, state, national and international affairs.
• This position will require travel in a scientific and professional capacity and, upon return, timely debriefings will be provided in an honorable, forthright and collegial manner with Departmental colleagues.
• Actively engage in research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the Department of Pediatrics.
• Develop programs of research and scholarly activities in keeping within the goals of the Department. Required the ability to synthesize a myriad of information pertaining to the area of research. May necessitate (orally or in writing) instructing research support personnel in protocol implementation.
• Seek appropriate funding mechanisms to support research. Will require completion of grant application forms through oral dictation or use of a computer and keyboard. Requires budget development and analysis.
• Contribute to the literature in the field of expertise by publishing original research in peer-reviewed journals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate must have completed a medical degree (MD/DO) in an accredited medical school or equivalent. Candidates must have completed an accredited pediatrics residency program. Completion of an accredited pediatric hematology-oncology fellowship is sought, although applicants with a strong background in oncology are encouraged to apply as well. Candidates must be board certified or board eligible in general pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics and be licensed as a physician in the State of Texas.
The Children's Hospital at MD Anderson evaluates over 800 new oncology patients and consultations annually, many of whom seek care for aggressive malignancy. Resources abound for patient care support including a robust integrative medicine program (including a mind body therapist, acupuncturist, music and art therapists); strong interventional pain program; state-of-the art AYA program, robust psychosocial support programs and a fully accredited on-site school program. Staff support includes a strong array of wellness programs within the institution and the Division including Gathering Ground healing circles, HOPES debrief program, and Wellness Monthly lunchtime events.
