Staff Geriatrics, Hospice & Palliative Care Physician
Togus VA Medical Center – Augusta, MaineFull-Time | Monday–Friday | Four 10 Hour Shifts | Minimal Call
The Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta, Maine is seeking a Hospice & Palliative Care Physician to join a dedicated, interdisciplinary team serving our nation’s Veterans. This is an excellent opportunity to provide high-quality, patient-centered care in a mission-driven federal healthcare system with a predictable schedule and strong clinical support.
Position Highlights
Full-time, Monday–Friday schedule (four 10-hour shifts)
Minimal call – home call every 6–8 weeks
Blend of inpatient, outpatient, and telehealth hospice/palliative care
Practice within a 12-bed inpatient hospice unit (Togus Springs)
Collaborative interdisciplinary team including nursing, social work, chaplain, and administrative support
Opportunities for teaching and mentoring residents, fellows, and students
Participate in program development and quality improvement initiatives
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive salary: $200,000–$315,000
Sign-on and retention incentives available
Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) eligibility — up to $200,000

Position Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive hospice and palliative care across inpatient, outpatient and long-term care and home settings.
Manage complex pain and symptom control for patients with serious illness
Lead goals-of-care and end of-life planning
Collaborate within a multidisciplinary care team to ensure high-quality patient outcomes
Support education and training of medical learners.
Qualifications
MD or DO from an accredited medical school
U.S. citizenship required
Board eligible in Hospice & Palliative Medicine upon hire; board certification within two years
Current, full, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory
Experience in hospice, palliative care or advanced illness management preferred.
