On-Call Hospice RN (Nights & Weekends) 7 on 7 off
Overview: A well-established hospice organization serving Shelby, Jefferson, Chilton, St. Clair, Walker, and Cullman Counties is seeking a compassionate, experienced On-Call Hospice RN to provide clinical coverage during nights and weekends. Our on-call RNs play a vital role in end-of-life care — stepping in during off-hours to bring relief, clarity, and support to patients and families when it matters most. This is an excellent opportunity for an RN who is already working this shift type and wants a stable, supportive on-call team.
Schedule
• 24-hour shifts on weekends
• Night call coverage during the week
• Ideal for RNs currently working on-call, night, or weekend hospice coverage
What You'll Do
• Collaborate with the on-call/triage team to deliver hands-on care to hospice patients and support to their families during after-hours visits
• Assess and manage urgent symptoms quickly and compassionately
• Administer medication and adjust care in accordance with hospice protocols or provider orders
• Communicate with physicians regarding changes in patient condition and obtain orders as needed
• Guide and support patients and families in understanding the current condition and anticipating next steps
• Respond to deaths occurring during on-call hours: pronounce death, support the family, coordinate with the funeral home, and notify the hospice team
• Complete timely, accurate documentation in accordance with hospice regulations
Qualifications
• Active, unencumbered RN license
• Hospice experience required
• Currently working on-call, night, or weekend hospice shifts strongly preferred
• Knowledge of hospice philosophy of care and commitment to clinical/documentation excellence
• Licensed driver with a reliable, insured vehicle able to travel throughout the service area
Compensation & Benefits
• Starting salary: $85,000+ (based on experience)
