Hospice Medical Director
Akron, OH | Contract
A hospice program serving the Akron, OH area is seeking a Hospice Medical Director to provide medical leadership and physician oversight. This is a contract position.
Schedule
Contract position. Specific expectations regarding availability, patient volume, interdisciplinary meetings, and physician coverage will be discussed during the interview process.
Compensation
$100,000 to $200,000 annually.
What You'll Do
The Medical Director assumes responsibility for the medical component of the hospice program, serving as a clinical resource to the interdisciplinary team and supporting appropriate hospice eligibility and certification decisions. This role helps ensure continuity and quality of physician services across the program.
The Medical Director advises clinicians, educates community physicians, supports eligibility decisions, participates in interdisciplinary care, and represents the hospice program professionally within the medical community.
Required Qualifications
• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
• Active, unrestricted Ohio physician license
• Current state and federal controlled substance registrations, including DEA registration
• Hospice or palliative care experience, or substantive training in end of life care
• Knowledge of Medicare hospice eligibility, certification, recertification, and Conditions of Participation
• Ability to collaborate effectively with attending physicians and interdisciplinary hospice teams
• Eligible to participate in Medicare and not excluded from any federal healthcare program
• Strong communication, clinical judgment, and documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Board certification or significant experience in hospice and palliative medicine, geriatrics, internal medicine, family medicine, oncology, or a related specialty
• Commitment to continued medical education in hospice and palliative medicine
Compensation and Benefits
• $100,000 to $200,000 annually
