• Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, including histories and physical examinations, along with appropriate diagnostic evaluations, ensuring timely treatment implementation.
• Diagnose and manage hematologic and oncologic emergencies effectively.
• Participate in patient rounds with residents and fellows as assigned, collaborating with fellow physician team members.
• Provide weekend and holiday coverage in rotation with other physicians.
• Demonstrate competence in the management of malignant hematology, benign hematology, and solid tumor oncologic diseases.
• Identify and manage treatment-related side effects and hematologic conditions.
• Counsel and support patients receiving a new diagnosis of malignancy or benign hematologic conditions.
• Educate clinical fellows and residents in an outpatient clinic setting.
• Perform necessary procedures, including bone marrow biopsies and peripheral smear analyses.
• Order and interpret diagnostic studies, including laboratory tests, EKGs, and radiological tests (e.g., chest x-ray, CT scan, MRI, PET scan).
• Provide initial and continuity of care for patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions in an outpatient setting.
• Prescribe chemotherapy and other medications within defined scope of practice.
• Advise patients on cancer screening, genetic testing, and preventive care.
• Respond promptly to consultation requests.
• Offer education and support for patients and families regarding hematologic or oncologic conditions.
• Supervise advance practice practitioners (nurse practitioners, physician assistants), and instruct students, residents, and fellows on both inpatient and outpatient services.
• Maintain communication with referring providers and other specialists (surgery, radiation oncology, transplant, etc.) for coordinated patient care.
• Engage in multi-disciplinary tumor board discussions.
• Complete electronic consultations (e-consults) for hematologic and oncologic concerns.
