Job Description
VieMed Healthcare Staffing is seeking a Hematology and Oncology Physician for a locum tenens opportunity in Martinsville, VA. This role offers a flexible schedule, light call, and a supportive team environment, focusing on outpatient care at a community hospital and specialty outpatient center. Practice Info
• Well-established hematology and oncology practice
• Outpatient clinical hours plus very light call (beeper only, 2-5 calls/week, phone consults only)
• Manage a patient volume of approximately 12-15 patients daily with complex needs
• Collaborate with a team of three established permanent hematology/oncology providers, plus RNs, PA/NP, and clinical staff
• Use EMR system (ARIA) for all documentation and reporting
• Dedicated hematology and oncology team at Sovah Health, a stroke-certified and non-trauma facility with experienced staff and full support services
Responsibilities
• Provide outpatient hematology and medical oncology care at a community hospital and specialty outpatient center
• Conduct consultations, treatment planning, and follow-ups for oncology patients
• Participate in light call coverage, responding to calls within 1 hour via beeper only
• Support patient-centered, mission-driven care in a well-staffed, supportive environment

Shift & Schedule
• Start date is August 26, 2026, with ongoing coverage needs
• Ongoing from 09/08/2026 (with specific blocks through 10/30/2026 and 11/16/2026)
• 4 shifts/week, 8-10 hours/day depending on patient volume
Requirements
• Required: Valid VA medical license
• Required: Board certification or eligibility in hematology and oncology
• Required: Fellowship training in hematology/oncology
• Required: Experience working in outpatient clinical settings with complex patient populations
• Required: Ability to handle high-acuity cases with a multidisciplinary team
• Preferred: Long-term commitment and driving distance candidates
• Preferred: Experience with complex cases and multidisciplinary care
• Preferred: Willingness to integrate into an established team and contribute to ongoing patient care efforts
