Job Description

Responsibilities
• Coordinate, execute, and oversee the implementation and monitoring of the US Oncology (USON) Compliance/HIPAA program at the practice level.
• Assist in development, implementation, and monitoring of USON policies and procedures related to compliance/HIPAA.
• Serve as the Privacy Officer at the practice level.
• Modify procedures to meet state‑specific rules and regulations and align them with individual field group or site practice policies.
• Support and adhere to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
• Oversee monitoring and implementation of the Code of Ethics and Business Standards at the practice level.
• Create and maintain practice‑level compliance and regulatory policies and procedures.
• Perform risk assessments and risk management activities, monitor physician and employee compliance accountability.
• Facilitate internal compliance audits, oversee external audit procedures.
• Oversee training of providers and clinical staff in correct medical coding procedures as outlined by federal and state reimbursement guidelines.
• Responsible for hiring, training, and supervising qualified staff members.
• Report/tracking possible privacy violations and work with site/area management to develop corrective action plans if appropriate.
• Understand and act on all HIPAA and healthcare compliance‑related changes.
• Act as the Privacy Officer for the practice and lead the Compliance committee.
• Audit documents to ensure billed services were documented as provided and documentation meets federal and state guidelines.
• Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk and provide guidance to practice leadership.
• Notify senior management of current compliance initiatives, implementation activities, and requests for policy changes.
• Train (initial and recurring) all employees to ensure understanding and adherence to HIPAA privacy regulations; assist with field training as needed during initial training phase.
Salary Level

$115,000 - $145,000 annual
Qualifications
• High School diploma or equivalent required;
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Health Care Administration or related degree preferred.
• Minimum seven years of related work experience in healthcare management, business/office reimbursement, compliance/regulatory affairs and/or quality improvement initiatives.
• Minimum three years experience in a physician group setting required. Outpatient, oncology experience preferred but not required.
• Thorough, in‑depth understanding of HIPAA privacy and security regulations at the national and local levels, Medicare Parts A and B, CPT 4, ICD 9, and HCPCS coding, and local carrier processes and initiatives. Certification strongly preferred.
• Prior privacy officer experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with risk, safety, or quality management is a plus.
Physical Demands

Employee is regularly required to experience prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching; requires eye‑hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment; requires normal range of hearing and eyesight correctable to 20/20; requires occasional lifting up to 30 pounds.
