Genitourinary Oncologist

IU Health and IU School of Medicine are seeking an academic medical oncologist to join the Genitourinary Oncology Program as a tenure-track faculty member within the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology. This physician-scientist role focuses on GU malignancies with a strong commitment to translational, laboratory-based, and preclinical research alongside a disease-site-focused clinical practice. The successful candidate will lead an independent research program, collaborate with clinical trial teams, and help advance novel therapeutic strategies and scientific discoveries.

Practice Info

• Academic medical oncologist position within the Genitourinary Oncology Program, Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology at the IU School of Medicine

• Practice setting includes the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center, an NCI-designated cancer center and NCCN member

• Clinical practice is disease-site-focused in GU oncology, with at least 50% effort dedicated to translational research, laboratory investigation, and collaboration with clinical trial teams

• Engagement in multidisciplinary tumor boards, disease-site research meetings, education, and mentorship of trainees and junior faculty

Responsibilities

• Lead a laboratory-based and/or preclinical research program focused on high-impact areas relevant to GU malignancies, including disease progression, therapeutic resistance, biomarker discovery, tumor biology, and novel drug development

• Collaborate closely with GU clinical investigators to translate scientific discoveries into clinical trial concepts

• Provide expert care of adults with GU cancers, with a clinical footprint aligned with the candidate's research goals

• Pursue peer-reviewed funding, including potential program project grants such as SPOREs

• Publish in high-impact journals and mentor trainees and junior faculty

• Participate in multidisciplinary and disease-site research programs

Requirements

• MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree (Required)

• BE/BC in Medical Oncology (Required)

• Ability to obtain an IN medical license (Required)

• Focused expertise in GU oncology (Required)

• Track record of scholarly productivity, including publications, presentations, and grant funding (Required)

• Strong interest in integrating translational research with therapeutic clinical trials (Required)

• Commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration, mentorship, and academic program development (Required)

• Established laboratory program in GU oncology or a closely related field (Preferred)

• Track record of peer-reviewed funding or strong potential for sustained extramural funding (Preferred)

• Experience developing translational concepts that inform clinical trial design (Preferred)

• Experience collaborating with clinical trialists, basic scientists, pathology, and precision genomics (Preferred)
