Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) – Adult Cancer Genetics, Lacks Cancer Center.

Position Summary

We are seeking a formally trained, Board Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) with a strong interest in adult cancer syndromes and hereditary/familial cancer risk assessment. This role is integral to advancing clinical care, education, and research within the Lacks Cancer Center. The Genetic Counselor will provide expert guidance to patients and families, lead genetic screening initiatives, and contribute to improving outcomes through evidence-based practices.

What You Need

• Education

• Required: Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from an American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC)-accredited program

• Preferred: N/A

• Credentials / Licensure

• Required: Board certification as a Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) through ABGC or ABMG

• Preferred: N/A

• Experience

• Required: N/A

• Preferred: Minimum of 3 years of experience in adult cancer genetics and familial cancer counseling

• Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Demonstrated expertise in clinical genetics

• Strong counseling, communication, and patient education skills

• Ability to deliver genetic counseling in alignment with professional ethics and standards

What You Will Do

• Clinical – Leadership of Genetics Program

• Direct and oversee the Lacks Cancer Center Genetics Program

• Evaluate patients and families at risk for hereditary cancers, including:

• Hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndromes

• Colorectal cancer syndromes (HNPCC, FAP, MYH1, Peutz-Jeghers)

• Familial melanoma

• Hereditary pancreatic cancer

• Hereditary endocrine disorders (MEN1/MEN2)

• Participate in biweekly screening within the Breast Clinic

• Participate in Gastrointestinal Multidisciplinary Clinic (MDC) programs and conferences

• Provide timely patient consultations (within 72 hours) for high-risk individuals where surgical decision-making may be impacted by genetic findings

• Education

• Lead and support educational initiatives related to identifying at-risk populations, including: Medical students and residents; Physicians across Trinity Health; Nursing staff within the Lacks Cancer Center; Community outreach and speaking engagements.

• Research

• Participate in research focused on improving screening rates for at-risk families

• Support development and implementation of genetic modifiers (e.g., K-ras, MSI) to guide treatment decisions in oncology care

• Contribute to ongoing clinical and translational research efforts

• Additional Responsibilities

• Perform other duties as assigned to support program growth and patient care excellence
