Job Description

Job Summary

Cancer Center of Middle Georgia is seeking a compassionate, highly organized, and detail-oriented Financial Counselor / Billing Liaison to join our growing independent oncology practice.

Our billing and claims submission are managed by an experienced off-site revenue cycle partner. This role serves as the primary liaison between patients, providers, nursing, scheduling, pharmacy, front desk staff, and our billing company to ensure patients understand the financial aspects of their cancer treatment while facilitating timely authorizations, chemotherapy coordination, and accurate communication.

A cancer diagnosis is life-changing, and the financial burden of treatment can add significant stress for patients and their families. Our Financial Counselor plays a vital role in reducing this financial toxicity by helping patients understand their insurance benefits, anticipated out-of-pocket costs, available financial assistance programs, and treatment-related financial responsibilities before therapy begins.

The ideal candidate enjoys helping patients navigate complex insurance and financial issues while working collaboratively with multiple departments in a fast-paced oncology environment.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide financial counseling to patients and families regarding anticipated treatment costs, deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and available financial assistance.

• Review insurance authorization reports and communicate patient financial responsibility prior to treatment.

• Coordinate with our off-site billing company regarding authorizations, billing questions, and clarification requests.

• Enter authorization information accurately into the electronic medical record.

• Coordinate chemotherapy drug orders with the outpatient pharmacy and Buy-and-Bill team.

• Assist with patient assistance programs, free drug applications, and VA authorizations.

• Prepare for and actively participate in weekly billing liaison meetings.

• Work collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing, scheduling, pharmacy, front desk, and management to resolve issues that could delay patient care or reimbursement.

• Maintain accurate documentation and communicate effectively across departments.

Qualifications

• Experience in healthcare, oncology, financial counseling, insurance verification, or medical office operations preferred.

• Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.

• Strong organizational abilities with exceptional attention to detail.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Proficiency with electronic medical records and Microsoft Office applications.

• Knowledge of commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care plans is preferred.

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate is compassionate, dependable, proactive, and enjoys working as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Professionalism, accountability, strong communication, and the ability to build positive working relationships across departments are essential. Preparation, teamwork, and a solutions-oriented approach are key to success in this role.
