Job Overview
We're looking for an operationally driven, detail-oriented professional to join our Expert Witness Services team. This role centers on forming and defending expert opinions on the reasonable value of medical costs and future medical expenses in litigation — through case-by-case analysis, deposition, and courtroom testimony. Prior expert witness experience required.
We welcome candidates from a range of backgrounds: healthcare-native experience (medical billing/coding, health plan or payer pricing, medical cost analysis) as well as general audit, finance, valuation, or statistical/quantitative experience — including outside of healthcare.
Beyond the technical work, this role has a genuine business development component. You'll be expected to build our professional network and represent yourself and the company well in front of attorneys and other prospective clients — so clear, concise, and confident communication matters.
Must reside in Texas.
Responsibilities
- Essential duties include but are not limited to:
- Analyze medical bills and future cost projections to determine the reasonable value of medical damages.
- Prepare clear, concise expert opinions explaining your analyses and methodologies.
- Maintain quality control and accuracy of client deliverables.
- Execute depositions and trial testimony with composure and confidence.
- Manage case timelines and daily case activity in coordination with our internal Operations team.
- Develop and maintain strong client and referral relationships, and actively participate in business development efforts — including building our professional network over time.
Qualifications & Skill Sets
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, healthcare administration or a related field; and / or professional experience in medical billing and coding, auditing, valuation, or data analytics.
- Prior testimony experience on valuation or medical billing required.
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and client communications.
- Proven ability to deliver exceptional client service, build lasting client relationships, and work effectively within a team-oriented environment.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and perform under pressure in high-consequence situations.
- Professional presence marked by confidence, composure, and sound ethical judgment.
- Commitment to continuous learning, including the willingness to pursue medical coding knowledge and certifications required for expert testimony.
- Flexibility to travel to client sites and work beyond core business hours as needed.
Ideal Certifications / Accreditations
- Life Care Planning certification.
- AAPC Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) certification.*
- Third Party valuation accreditation (e.g. CVA, ABV).
- Accounting / CPA accreditation.
*Note: If you do not have AAPC Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) certification, AccuMed will sponsor the certification.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000
