Experienced Physician Assistant (PA) Or Nurse Practitioner (NP)

Spine Associates of NYC IS A rapidly growing private spine surgery practice in Manhattan is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our team. This is an opportunity to work in a sophisticated, high-touch private-practice environment that prioritizes personalized care, accessibility, and long-term patient relationships. We are not a high-volume clinic. Each patient receives individualized attention throughout the entire course of treatment—from the initial evaluation through surgery and postoperative recovery.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience evaluating and managing patients with cervical and lumbar spine disorders. Experience with both nonoperative and surgical spine patients is strongly preferred. The position is primarily office based, with the opportunity to participate in the operating room depending on the candidate’s experience and professional interests.

Primary Responsibilities

● Perform initial assessments of new patients with possible surgical spine conditions.

● Conduct comprehensive histories and focused neurologic and musculoskeletal examinations.

● Review MRIs, CT scans, X-rays, and other diagnostic studies with the surgical team.

● Coordinate preoperative planning, medical clearances, testing, and patient education.

● Guide patients and their families through the surgical process with clear, timely communication.

● Evaluate postoperative patients and oversee recovery, wound care, medications, rehabilitation, and follow-up imaging.

● Manage established nonoperative spine patients and coordinate PT, injections, and other appropriate treatments.

● Respond to clinical questions and maintain continuity of care before and after surgery.

● Collaborate closely with the surgeons, office staff, hospitals, physical therapists, and other referring specialists.

● Participate in the continued development of clinical protocols and patient-care systems as the practice expands.

The practice currently operates at three additional regional locations. The PA may have the opportunity to work at these offices, although travel outside Manhattan is not required.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be clinically experienced, polished, and highly dependable. Strong communication skills and an excellent bedside manner are essential. The individual must be comfortable working independently while also collaborating closely with the surgeons and the rest of the practice team.

Candidates should be able to manage a moderately busy patient flow without sacrificing attention to detail or the personalized experience expected in a high-level private practice. We are looking for someone who is proactive, organized, responsive, and capable of developing trusted relationships with patients and their families.

Preferred Qualifications

● Current New York State Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner license and appropriate certification.

● Prior experience in orthopedic spine surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedics, or a closely related specialty.

● Familiarity with spine imaging, neurologic examination, and perioperative patient management.

● Experience managing patients before and after spine surgery.

● Excellent clinical judgment, documentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

● Operating-room experience is welcomed but not required.
