Summary

The Executive Director for Business Development is a senior leadership role responsible for advancing Moffitt Cancer Center’s mission through the creation and execution of high-impact external partnerships. This position leads the development of research collaborations, strategic alliances, technology licenses, joint ventures, and spinout companies that translate scientific discoveries into meaningful patient impact. The Executive Director partners closely with scientific, clinical, and operational leaders to identify and advance opportunities aligned with Moffitt’s strategic and research priorities. This role has primary accountability for structuring, valuing, and negotiating complex transactions. Responsibilities include developing sophisticated financial models to price deals, preparing budgets and term sheets, providing clear business justification for deal terms, securing required leadership approvals, and leading negotiations with external partners. The Executive Director collaborates closely with Moffitt’s legal counsel on contract strategy and execution and provides direct supervision and mentorship to business development staff while serving as a trusted advisor to executive leadership. Minimum Skills/Specialized Training Required

• Advanced financial modeling and valuation skills, including pricing of licensing, collaboration, and joint venture transactions
• Strong negotiation, persuasion, and deal-structuring capabilities
• Working knowledge of intellectual property, licensing models, sponsored research, and research funding mechanisms
• Ability to justify and communicate deal terms, financial assumptions, and strategic value to senior leadership
• Proven ability to manage multiple complex transactions simultaneously
• Executive-level written and verbal communication skills
• Experience working in or with academic medical centers, research institutions, or life sciences organizations
• Demonstrated supervisory and team-leadership skills Minimum Experience Required PhD, Master’s, MBA, or JD and a minimum of eight (8) years progressive experience in business development, strategic partnerships, licensing, corporate development, or related fields. Experience must be inclusive of:
• Minimum two (2) years of supervisory or people-management experience
• Demonstrated experience negotiating complex agreements such as research collaborations, licenses, strategic alliances, or joint ventures
• Experience working closely with legal counsel on contract negotiations and execution *Bachelor's degree and ten (10) years of experience as stated above will be considered. Salary Range

$167,084.84 - $251,118.40

Salary ranges posted for this position represent the expected base pay range for the role. Actual compensation may vary based on location and a variety of job-related factors, including experience, skills, education, and internal equity among Team Members in similar positions.
