JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
To be considered, applicants must possess a diverse skillset. You must be able to direct two nonprofit organizations with a total budget of approximately 2.2 million dollars. You will also act as owner/property manager of a commercial property valued at 2.4 million dollars. Finally, you should have some basic computer / IT skills.
The first nonprofit is a Center for Independent Living. Their mission is to assist individuals with disabilities to live independently in the community and to encourage community change to support options and opportunities. Experience working with individuals with disabilities, a knowledge of disability rights issues, and the independent living movement are required. Experience working at a Center for Independent Living or a grassroots disability advocacy organization is preferred.
The second nonprofit acts as a Public Housing Authority and has an administrative contract with Virginia Housing to process Housing Choice vouchers. An awareness of housing issues and an understanding of the voucher program is essential
Both organizations will require experience in building, educating, and working with the Board of Directors. You must also oversee the monitoring of successful program delivery, basic HR, staff supervision, fundraising, legal issues, and public relations. Finally, you must also create and monitor budgets for both nonprofits and the property.
On the Property Management side, you must manage a commercial property with 19,524 square feet. The first-floor houses both nonprofits. The entire second floor consists of paying tenants. Prompt responses to tenant issues, knowledge of building management, basic handyman skills, and maintaining a positive cash flow while preserving and building upon your reserves are all important skills.
Finally, a basic level of IT experience would be a plus in addressing ongoing tech issues, upgrades, and staff IT problems. With support costs escalating, any in-house fix is money saved for staff and consumers. A willingness to pursue IT skills and a familiarity with computer and printer troubleshooting would be helpful..
A Master's Degree is preferred, along with at least 10 years of management experience, 5 of which should be in a Director role. A Bachelor’s Degree will be considered in situations where all the primary experiences described above are sufficiently addressed. Individuals with disabilities are strongly urged to apply.
