Summary

The Environmental Services Specialty Technician's primary responsibility is disinfecting specialty areas such as Infusion Pharmacy, Sterile Processing, Operating Rooms, Procedure Rooms, Cell Therapy. As part of the Spill Response Team, deactivates and decontaminates chemotherapy and other hazardous agent spills. Responsible for reducing the spread of bacteria and infection as well as providing an environment that appears clean, fresh, and polished. This position performs a variety of duties that support the department in maintaining a clean environment for patients and staff, this includes cleaning/disinfecting other areas as needed.

• Maintains awareness and follows safety policies and procedures applicable to assigned duties. Responsibilities:
• High touch surface disinfection and cleaning
• Properly clean and disinfect all types of areas including clinical inpatient/outpatient (patient rooms, exam rooms, nurse stations, etc.), support/common areas, offices, labs, conference rooms, elevators, stairwells, corridors, external grounds, etc.
• Handle and dispose of medical waste and sharps, observing all required precautions, including properly tying and labeling bags
• Identifying different waste streams disposed of improperly and reporting to Supervisor
• Use proper chemicals, tools, and equipment for each situation
• Clean spills containing blood or other potentially infectious material using established infection control, safety, and ES departmental procedures.
• Cleans specialty areas including but not limited to: Infusion Pharmacy, Sterile Processing, Operating Rooms, Procedure Rooms, Cell Therapy
• As part of the Spill Response Team, deactivates and decontaminates chemotherapy and other hazardous agent spills
• Chemical exposure response and basic first aid
• Occasionally, you may have to travel to off-site locations.
• Complete other duties as assigned
• Follow departmental and other regulatory standards regarding all cleaning policies and procedures (using proper disinfectants, labeling chemical bottles, keeping an organized cart, etc.)
• Perform all essential functions following established safety and infection control requirements (perform hand hygiene, wear PPE, etc.)
• Follow instructions and guidelines set forth by Environmental Services management
• Demonstrate competency by completing required departmental education and training
• Represent the Environmental Services department positively and professionally at all times.
• Maintain positive relationships and good communication with patients, visitors, staff members, and those within the Environmental Services department
• Report on all facilities/maintenance issues to Supervisor Minimum Experience Required:
• Minimum two (2) years in Healthcare Janitorial / Environmental Services experience including the following: 6 months applying proficient knowledge of specialty area (for example including terminal cleans), Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Must show evidence of a good driving record and maintain a good record per Moffitt Policy.
• ***For internal candidates only below*** - Average quality score of 90% in the previous 12 months - Successful completion of all competencies over a rolling 12 month period Credentials and Qualifications:
• High School Diploma / GED.
• Florida Driver’s License (DL).

Salary Range

Salary ranges posted for this position represent the expected base pay range for the role. Actual compensation may vary based on location and a variety of job-related factors, including experience, skills, education, and internal equity among Team Members in similar positions.
