We are seeking an Environmental Scientist with 1–5 years of relevant experience to join our growing team. This position offers a combination of fieldwork, technical reporting, project coordination, and direct involvement in complex environmental and infrastructure projects throughout the NJ/NY/PA metropolitan area.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform environmental fieldwork, including the collection of soil, groundwater, surface water, waste-characterization, and ambient-air samples.
• Conduct perimeter and community air monitoring for dust, PM-10, VOCs, and other project-specific parameters.
• Provide environmental oversight during excavation, soil handling, remediation, construction, and waste transportation activities.
• Document field activities through detailed field notes, photographs, monitoring logs, daily reports, sample records, and chain-of-custody documentation.
• Operate and maintain field instruments such as photoionization detectors, particulate monitors, water-quality meters, and groundwater-sampling equipment.
• Coordinate with contractors, laboratories, transporters, disposal facilities, clients, and project managers.
• Assist with waste characterization, material profiling, disposal approvals, manifests, and soil-management tracking.
• Review laboratory analytical data and assist in preparing technical reports, tables, figures, work plans, sampling plans, and regulatory submissions.
• Support projects conducted under NJDEP, NYSDEC, NYCDEP, and other applicable environmental programs.
• Follow project-specific health and safety plans and maintain compliance with company and client safety requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
• One to five years of environmental consulting, remediation, construction-monitoring, or related field experience.
• Experience collecting environmental samples and maintaining accurate field documentation.
• Working knowledge of environmental field procedures, quality assurance/quality control requirements, and chain-of-custody protocols.
• Strong technical writing, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and related applications.
• Ability to work independently in the field while communicating effectively with project managers and clients.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel to project sites throughout New Jersey and New York.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift or carry field equipment weighing up to approximately 40 pounds.
• Willingness to work occasional early mornings, evenings, weekends, or extended shifts based on project requirements.
• Current 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification and annual 8-hour refresher.
• Experience with soil and groundwater investigations, community air monitoring, remediation oversight, or soil and waste management.
• Familiarity with NJDEP, NYSDEC, NYCDEP, or New York City environmental requirements.
• Experience using particulate monitors, PIDs, water-quality meters, low-flow groundwater-sampling equipment, or similar environmental instruments.
