Job Description
Title: Director, Data Management Risk Oversight
We're working with a leading global financial institution on a senior
Data Management Risk Oversight opportunity within its Non-Financial Risk organization. This is a second-line role focused on providing independent oversight, challenge, monitoring, and escalation across the firm’s Data Management program.
What you’ll be doing:
- Develop and execute a risk-based Data Management oversight plan, prioritizing material risks, regulatory priorities, and significant program changes.
- Lead independent reviews, deep dives, and thematic assessments from scoping through documented conclusions and escalation.
- Review and challenge Data Management policies, standards, governance structures, risk assessments, issues, risk acceptances, and remediation plans.
- Assess data governance and ownership, data quality, lineage and metadata, critical data, authoritative sources, data lifecycle, architecture, reconciliations, and data supporting regulatory and management reporting.
- Establish risk-based monitoring using KRIs, risk appetite measures, incidents, issues, control results, and regulatory/Internal Audit findings.
- Provide independent assessment of Data Management risks associated with
AI and emerging technologies, including data sourcing, quality, lineage, provenance, classification, access, retention, and traceability.
- Partner closely with Data Management, Regulatory Reporting, Finance, Technology, AI Governance, Model Risk, Legal, Compliance, Information Security, Privacy, and other control functions while maintaining independent judgment.
- Prepare concise, evidence-based reporting for senior management and risk committees, clearly articulating risk, management response, residual exposure, and required actions.
- Support regulatory examinations and Internal Audit activity within the second-line mandate.
What we’re looking for:
- Deep subject-matter expertise in Data Management risk, governance, and controls within a complex financial-services environment.
- Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, lineage/metadata, data ownership, reporting, and related risk frameworks.
- Experience conducting independent risk reviews, challenging first-line stakeholders, evaluating remediation, and escalating material issues.
- Familiarity with Regulatory Reporting and the relationship between Data Management weaknesses and reporting accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Understanding of data risks associated with AI and emerging technology is highly relevant.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data issues into clear risk implications for senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to balance pragmatic business considerations with
independent, skeptical, and evidence-based risk oversight.
This is an individual-contributor role initially, reporting to an Executive Director and participating in the Non-Financial Risk Management leadership team, with potential to assume direct-report responsibilities as the function develops.
