Job Summary
Full-time cytologist to provides support for Endoscopy, Radiology, and other diagnostic procedures requiring an on-site cytologist in a hospital setting.
Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.
Job Description
• Attends scheduled procedures to provide rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) of cytology specimens, when applicable, to assess specimen adequacy and assist with appropriate specimen collection.
• Uses HIS & LIS computer systems to result tests and charge tests to ensure appropriate turn-around-time for patient diagnosis.
• Screens GYN & Non GYN microscope slides quickly and efficiently within prescribed departmental guidelines for quantity and accuracy, which is determined by individual discrepancy rates compared to departmental discrepancy rates, applying diagnostic criteria and clinical history to arrive at an appropriate diagnosis to present to the pathologist or clinician.
• Operates, troubleshoots and maintains laboratory equipment and performs procedures to ensure high quality, accurate and cost-effective results.
• Performs and documents quality control as specified for each procedure meeting established internal and regulatory guidelines. Participates in Quality Assurance activities to meet the Medical Center's continuing quality improvement standards.
• Attends procedures and collects specimens according to laboratory policies and procedures for timely and accurate testing.
• Enhances professional growth and development of self, department staff, other hospital personnel, community and students by participation in continuing education, and In-service training and the School of Medical Technology.
• Implements ICARE principles using communication skills and human relations to promote quality patient care and a productive working environment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses
BS in Cytotechnology or related field
Must be an ASCP registered Cytotechnologist
Specialized Knowledge
Preferred: ThinPrep certified
