## Key Role Overview
This Cytotechnologist position at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is a full-time, day-shift role responsible for performing cytologic evaluations, maintaining departmental operations and quality control, and supporting client relations for cytology services. The role requires ASCP cytotechnologist registry and an associate degree with science coursework, and contributes to patient care through accurate specimen assessment and coordination with clinical teams.
## What are the Key Responsibilities?
- Take appropriate corrective action in situations involving quality control and instrumentation.
- Maintain the overall efficient operation of the department by adhering to technical and scientific standards.
- Maintain supply inventory; submit purchase requests with cost effectiveness in mind and strive to decrease cost per billable tests.
- Work closely with sales/client services on management of existing accounts and marketing of new accounts; meet with prospective clients to answer technical questions and provide information.
- Correctly evaluate and predict a cytologic diagnosis based on the cellular sample.
- Identify unacceptable specimens with written documentation and contact the patient’s physician or nurse for possible recollection.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
## What are the Required Qualifications?
- Associate Degree with at least 12 semester hours in science, eight of which are biology.
- No prior experience required.
- Cytotechnologist registry with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
