Job Description
Role: Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
Location: Remote
Job Type: Full time
The Role
The CTO will own the Group's overall technology strategy and help determine how technology can create competitive advantage across its businesses and platforms.
You will work closely with senior leadership to define the technology roadmap, evaluate emerging technologies, establish engineering standards, and build the technical organization required for long-term growth.
This is not a purely strategic or administrative CTO role. The ideal candidate is still technically engaged and enjoys getting into the details when the situation requires it.
Key Responsibilities
- Own technology strategy, architecture, and major technical decisions across the Group.
- Define scalable and secure architectures across multiple products, platforms, and businesses.
- Review critical systems, infrastructure, architecture, APIs, and code.
- Establish engineering standards for security, reliability, scalability, performance, testing, and code quality.
- Identify technical debt and architectural constraints and lead initiatives to address them.
- Improve engineering velocity, developer productivity, and production reliability.
- Determine which technology, infrastructure, platforms, and services should be shared across businesses.
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, particularly AI, automation, data, and cloud technologies.
- Develop practical strategies for using generative AI and AI-enabled development to improve products and engineering productivity.
- Recruit, evaluate, mentor, and develop senior engineers, technical leads, engineering managers, and technology leaders.
- Build a high-performance engineering culture focused on ownership, innovation, quality, and execution.
- Provide technical leadership during complex engineering challenges and significant production incidents.
- Partner with executive leadership on technology investments, priorities, and long-term product strategy.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have a deep software engineering background combined with proven technology leadership experience.
You should have:
- Significant experience building and scaling production software systems.
- Strong knowledge of backend engineering, APIs, databases, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and modern software architecture.
- Experience making architecture decisions across multiple products or engineering teams.
- Strong technical judgment and the ability to challenge technical decisions at the implementation level.
- Experience building and leading high-performing engineering organizations.
- Experience hiring and assessing exceptional technical talent.
- Strong understanding of modern cloud platforms and engineering practices.
- Experience with AI/ML, generative AI, automation, or AI-enabled products is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with founders, executives, engineers, and other stakeholders.
- A hands-on mindset—you should be comfortable reviewing architecture, code, incidents, and difficult technical problems directly.
The Ideal Background
We would be particularly interested in candidates who have held roles such as:
- CTO / Chief Technology Officer
- VP Engineering / SVP Engineering
- Head of Engineering
- Technical Founder / Co-Founder
- Engineering leader at a high-growth technology company
- Principal or Distinguished Engineer who has moved into technology leadership
Experience with AI, SaaS, data infrastructure, fintech, Web3, developer platforms, marketplaces, or other rapidly evolving technology environments would be valuable.
