Job Description
Position Overview
The Yale Center for Research Computing is seeking a Computational Research Support Analyst to join its interdisciplinary Research Support group with a focus on Artificial Intelligence and secure computing environments (e.g. NIST 800-171 and HIPAA). The role involves consulting with and advising users—from faculty to graduate students—on computational solutions, implementing operational enhancements with the HPC engineering team, and delivering training in HPC and data science. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Arts & Sciences Research Computing. Compensation Grade: Administration & Operations; Grade Profile: Manager; Program Leader (P5). This is a full-time position with a standard 37.5-hour work week on a Hybrid work model at our Central Campus in New Haven, CT.
Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate with faculty and researchers to provide scientific computational expertise and enhance the efficiency of research algorithms.
• Interface with faculty to solicit requirements for enhancing the daily operations of Yale's Center for Research Computing (YCRC).
• Work with the HPC engineering team to implement operational enhancements.
•
Provide technical support, computing assistance, and training to YCRC users, including:
• Software installation and support of various scientific software packages.
• Consultation and design of software and systems to support computational research.
• Parallel programming and performance tuning.
• Assistance with data management, sharing, and troubleshooting computational issues.
• Investigate new computing technologies in hardware, software, and networking areas.
• Develop and deliver training programs, seminars, and outreach activities in HPC and data science.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in a scientific or computational field plus two years of academic or scientific industry experience.
• Extensive experience working in a Linux environment.
• Mastery of programming in at least one language such as Python or C.
• Knowledge of software building and installation tools (e.g. make, autoconf).
• Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with building and tuning AI systems.
• Experience with GPUs and HPC clusters.
• Familiarity with AI tools such as TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, and large language models.
• Proficiency in computing languages such as C, Python, Matlab, and R.
• Experience in high performance computing within a Linux environment.
• Familiarity with software tools including Docker, Apptainer, Slurm, MPI, Jupyter, EasyBuild, and conda.
• Experience in teaching courses, workshops, or consulting in advanced computing.
