Summary:

The Clinical Supervisor plays a crucial role in the nursing team, collaborating with the Nursing Department Director/Manager to oversee daily operations and ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality nursing care. This position involves not only leadership but also active participation in providing patient care as needed. The Clinical Supervisor is dedicated to fostering a supportive environment for patients, families, and staff, setting a standard for clinical and service excellence as a role model.

Responsibilities:
• Exhibit current and comprehensive professional nursing knowledge aligned with recognized standards and regulations including the New Mexico Nurse Practice Act.
• Conduct patient experience rounds to enhance service satisfaction and assist in real-time service recovery. Support the investigation of complaints alongside management.
• Champion departmental change by identifying challenges and advocating for necessary resources.
• Prepare patient assignments tailored to patient needs and staff competencies, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.
• Collaborate with the Patient Flow Supervisor to optimize patient placement and flow metrics.
• Encourage teamwork and resolve conflicts constructively while supporting inter-disciplinary collaboration.
• Monitor and reinforce compliance with policies and procedures among nursing staff.
• Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and actively address compliance with safety standards.
• Guide and monitor staff in effective hourly rounding and communication techniques.
• Act as a clinical resource for team members facing complex situations related to patient care.
• Oversee preventive measures for fall and skin risk, ensuring appropriate interventions are in place.
• Facilitate effective pain management among nursing staff, promoting communication with physicians regarding patient needs.
• Encourage staff participation in unit-based multi-disciplinary rounds.
• Implement and monitor adherence to National Patient Safety Goals in clinical practice.
• Reassess the effectiveness of comfort measures and monitor staff compliance regarding follow-up care.
• Mentor staff in making cost-effective decisions and using resources efficiently, maintaining productivity standards.
• Ensure compliance with IV therapy and medication administration protocols among nursing staff.
• Utilize AIDET principles to foster positive interactions with patients, guiding staff to do the same.
• Promote a safe workplace, ensuring knowledge of hazard reporting procedures.
• Respond to unit emergencies, maintaining readiness to manage critical situations effectively.
• Participate in the coordination of emergency measures during critical incidents.
• Manage end-of-shift controlled substance counts, resolving discrepancies promptly.
• Facilitate seamless transitions of care through effective hand-off communication.
• Assist in developing staff schedules and real-time staffing assessments based on departmental requirements.
• Engage in the recruitment and training of new associates, setting clear expectations for performance.
• Support management in the corrective action process and performance evaluations.
• Provide direct patient care when necessary.

Requirements:
• Graduate from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred and national certification is a plus.

Experience:
• A minimum of 3 years relevant nursing experience preferred.
• Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary for patient care specific to the assigned unit.

Certifications, Registrations, or Licenses:
• Current RN license in the State of New Mexico.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and any relevant certifications must be current or obtained within specified timeframes.
• Certifications must be from a recognized entity, like the American Heart Association.
