Job Description
The VA San Diego Healthcare System is seeking a highly skilled Chief Pathologist to lead our Pathology and Laboratory Medicine department. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced physician to take on a pivotal leadership role in a dynamic healthcare setting.
As the Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, you will be responsible for:
• Serving as the CLIA Laboratory Director at the VA medical facility, ensuring compliance with all laboratory regulations.
• Overseeing all laboratory testing conducted at our facilities and acting as a consultant for specialty laboratories to maintain federal compliance.
• Directing patient care, administration, education, and research functions within the VA medical facility PALMS.
• Ensuring all quality measures concerning patient services are met with the highest standards.
• Providing expert consultation to healthcare providers on pathology and laboratory medicine, including the medical significance of laboratory findings.
• Participating as a member of the Clinical Executive Board or similar committees, contributing to the facility's clinical and administrative excellence.
• Engaging in performance improvement activities and collaborating with the Chief Of Staff to integrate patient care and support services effectively.
• Coordinating functions and outreach initiatives of the VA medical facility PALMS based on its mission and needs.
• Ensuring laboratory accreditation standards are met and overseeing quality reviews, including OPPE and FPPE.
• Assigning pathology workloads equitably among staff and developing efficient daily schedules, including on-call duties.
• Participating in multidisciplinary conferences, such as Tumor Boards and Specialty Conferences, to foster collaborative care.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Qualifications:
• U.S. Citizenship.
• Unrestricted U.S. Medical License.
• Successful completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited fellowship in your specialty.
• Board Certification in your specialty.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior experience with the VA.
• 5 years of supervisory experience.
