San Juan Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) is a 198-bed acute care hospital serving the Four Corners region, offering a broad range of medical, surgical, and rehabilitation services across its main campus and multiple off-site facilities. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in Farmington, NM, responsible for overseeing clinical quality, patient safety, and medical staff affairs across San Juan Regional Medical Center and its affiliated facilities. The CMO collaborates closely with executive leadership, department chairs, and frontline clinicians to develop, implement, and monitor evidence-based clinical policies, care standards, and performance improvement initiatives. Day-to-day responsibilities include supervising medical staff governance processes, supporting peer review and credentialing, guiding utilization management and managed care strategies, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. The CMO provides strategic input on service line development, resource allocation, and population health initiatives, while fostering a culture of collaboration, ethical practice, and continuous improvement. This role also involves regular engagement with community partners and stakeholders to advance SJRMC’s mission of accessible, high-quality care for a diverse patient population.





Qualifications


- MD or DO degree
- Licensed in the State of New Mexico
- Knowledgeable in quality systems and processes
- Knowledgeable in CMS Value Based Purchasing Program, CMS 5-star Rating Program and other publicly reported quality sources
- Have demonstrable experience in leading improvement in medical staff and hospital overall quality and patient safety outcomes
- Build consensus among all segments of the medical staff and SJRMC/SJHP leaders around key strategies and tactics needed to drive excellence in overall quality and patient safety outcomes
- Be a champion of evidence-based standards of care and lead elimination of non-value-added variation
- Knowledgeable of medical staff credentialing processes and standards
- Clearly articulate and support the role information technology plays in the delivery of quality healthcare
- Possess well-honed leadership and administrative skills to inspire respect from peers and staff, such as:

- Minimum of five (5) years of post-residency experience in direct patient care in a hospital setting
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in a supervisory position, managing direct reports in a hospital setting
