Cell Engineer, Cell Engineering (Winter/Spring) Internship

Join Tesla’s Internship Recruiting Team to develop emerging talent through hands-on experience in cell engineering across multiple locations.
Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:
• Work on Cell Materials Engineering team to design, qualify, and develop test methods for cathode, anode, and electrolyte materials, managing program scope and risks.
• Contribute to Cell Development Lab by prototyping next-generation materials, electrodes, and cells, improving automated cell prototype line equipment and processes.
• Support Cell Modeling team by processing test data, optimizing model parameters, and translating degradation mechanisms into mathematical models to predict cell lifetime.
• Collaborate closely with managers, mentors, and team members on projects critical to Tesla’s battery cell technology success.
About You

The company is looking for:
• Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Materials, Chemical, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Experience with SolidWorks, Python, Catia, CAD/AutoCAD, Revit, 3DX, or other 3D modeling software.
• Experience using MATLAB/Simulink for modeling physical systems.
• Knowledge of lithium-ion battery technology and electrochemistry.
• Participation in research within the battery or cell material field.
• Expertise in analysis and/or qualification of lithium-ion cell materials including cathode, anode, electrolyte, etc.
• Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Matplotlib or Plotly.
• Understanding of first-principle physics related to electrical and mechanical systems, power delivery, energy storage, and thermo-fluids engineering.

• Hourly pay range: $20.00 - $50.00 plus benefits, varying by location, knowledge, skills, and experience.
