Job Description
Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, providing compassionate support to patients and families facing cancer diagnoses. As an Oncology Social Worker, you will evaluate and address the psychosocial, spiritual, emotional, and economic needs of those impacted by cancer, helping them navigate the challenges associated with their diagnosis.
Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team to support patients and families.
• Assess social determinants of health such as housing, food security, financial assistance, employment, language, and cultural barriers.
• Provide guidance on psychosocial issues including treatment decisions, quality of life, care transitions, advance directives, and coping strategies.
• Communicate clearly and document interactions accurately while managing a diverse range of individuals independently.
• Connect patients and families with appropriate community resources and provide follow-up support.
• Educate staff and community members on psychosocial concerns and social determinants of health.
• Participate in cancer-related committees and meetings to contribute to patient care planning.
• Maintain productivity standards and complete documentation within required timeframes.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Social Work (BSW) required; Master of Social Work (MSW) preferred.
Experience
At least one year of clinical experience in multidisciplinary settings is preferred.
Licensure/Certification
Licensed social worker preferred.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Strong mental focus and excellent communication skills are essential. The role involves approximately 80% interaction with patients, families, visitors, staff, and physicians. Requires standing and walking for extended periods using proper body mechanics. Ability to work under stress and handle exposure to communicable diseases and other occupational hazards.
