Job Description
## About This Role
At Eisai, we're committed to satisfying unmet medical needs and increasing the benefits healthcare provides to patients, their families, and caregivers. As a growing pharmaceutical company breaking through in neurology and oncology with a strong emphasis on research and development, we're seeking highly-motivated individuals who want to work in a fast-paced environment and make a real difference.
The Associate Director or Director of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) in our Oncology division plays a critical leadership role managing MSLs across the Central region. You'll work collaboratively with Medical Affairs Senior management on both strategic and tactical planning, supporting clinical studies across our product portfolio while working directly with Medical Affairs and Clinical Development teams.
## What You'll Do
Your primary focus will be providing leadership, direction, and management of MSLs within your region. You'll develop individual talent on your team through goal setting, activity oversight, coaching, performance assessment, and ongoing engagement. Providing field-level scientific leadership in your assigned therapeutic areas means working closely with home office medical colleagues to understand the scientific landscape and communicate that understanding to key internal stakeholders.
You'll work closely with your direct reports in the field and Medical Directors, sometimes engaging with external customers to stay current on developments in oncology. Creating a strong culture of accountability is essential—you'll personally deliver on your commitments, hold others accountable for their performance, and take timely, decisive action to address any performance issues that arise. Assisting other managers with leadership competency criteria, performance assessments of their MSLs, and promotion recommendations will be part of your broader leadership responsibilities.
Cross-functional collaboration is critical to success here. You'll need to work effectively and compliantly with alliance leadership and ensure targets are clearly defined within your teams. Making sure important information cascades well throughout the organization and driving accountability is central to the role.
## What We're Looking For
You'll bring a bachelor's degree (master's preferred) and 10+ years of relevant experience in the life sciences industry. An advanced degree in sciences or a related field with substantial experience in pharma or biotech is valuable, or you may have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience managing field-based medical teams directly in a supervisory or leadership capacity is preferred. You need a practical understanding of FDA, OIG, HIPAA, Ph. RMA, and other international regulatory and ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry. Proven performance in earlier roles is important to us, and oncology experience is preferred.
## Essential Requirements
As a field-based position, you must be able to engage in person with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and other third parties at their offices, institutions, and other appropriate locations on a regular basis. You'll need to travel regularly for conferences, congresses, team meetings, mentoring and training activities, and KOL/HCP interactions as needed.
Applicants selected for this position may be required to complete third parties' credentialing and entry requirements, which often include attestation to and/or proof of certain vaccinations. To the extent you're unable to meet certain requirements for qualifying medical (including pregnancy-related) or religious reasons, you should request reasonable accommodation by contacting our Human Resources Department.
## Core Competencies
Success in this role requires strong communication and cross-functional influence, critical thinking and agility, understanding of healthcare environment dynamics, KOL/HCP engagement skills, medical data and insights expertise, people development capabilities, resource planning and management abilities, and territory management expertise.
## Compensation and Benefits
The annual base salary range for the Associate Director position is $206,600 to $271,215. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible to participate in Eisai Inc. Annual Incentive Plan and Eisai Inc. Long Term Incentive Plan. Final pay determinations will depend on various factors including but not limited to experience level, education, knowledge, and skills.
Employees are eligible to participate in our company employee benefit programs. For additional information on compensation and benefits, visit careers.eisai.com/us/en/compensation-and-benefits. Certain other benefits may be available for this position—discuss any questions with your recruiter.
