POSITION SUMMARY The Assistant Director of Medical Oncology APPs leads Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) across the medical oncology service line, including inpatient, outpatient, infusion, and specialty services. The role oversees APP practice, staffing, education, professional development, quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. In partnership with physician leadership and interdisciplinary teams, the Assistant Director supports consistent, evidence-based, patient-centered care and the growth of APP services.
The Assistant

Director directly supervises APP Managers and supports the development of Lead APPs and frontline APPs.
CORE ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead the development and ongoing improvement of the Medical Oncology APP Program, including practice standards, goals, performance measures, and workforce plans.
• Supervise assigned APPs, APP leaders, educators, and other direct reports; assign work, evaluate performance, and support their professional and leadership development.
• Oversee APP staffing, scheduling, and clinical coverage across the medical oncology service line.
• Partner with physician and clinical leaders to establish APP care standards, documentation practices, and clinical workflows.
• Monitor APP clinical quality, patient safety, patient experience, and operational performance; implement improvements as needed.
• Oversee APP onboarding, orientation, competency assessment, and continuing education.
• Partner with clinical leadership and Human Resources on APP recruitment, retention, and workforce needs.
• Develop staffing and resource plans and participate in budget planning for the APP Program.
• Ensure APP practice complies with applicable licensure, certification, credentialing, scope-of-practice, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain clinical competency and provide direct patient care as required by the position.

Requirements
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Nurse Practitioner: Master’s or Doctorate’s degree from an accredited Nursing Program; OR
• Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited PA Program.
• Must demonstrate prior leadership experience overseeing clinical staff.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSE OR REGISTRATION
APRN

• Active RN and APRN License in State of Florida.
• Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP®) required within one (!) year from date of hire.
• Active board certification as a NP in: Adult; Adult/Gerontology, Acute Care; Family if assigned work location is at Tampa General Hospital. OR;

PA

• Active PA license in State of Florida.
• Active PA board certification.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, OR ABILITIES
• Advanced clinical knowledge in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment
• Understanding of pharmacology and prescriptive authority
• Familiarity with state/federal regulations and scope of practice
• Strong communication and patient education skills
• Proficient in EMR systems (e.g., Epic) and clinical documentation
• Critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities
