Summary:
The Acute Oncology Clinical Supervisor collaborates with the Nursing Department Director/Manager to ensure exceptional nursing care and safety within the clinical department. This leadership role is vital in overseeing daily operations, supporting patient and family services through an interdisciplinary team, and providing guidance to nursing associates while delivering patient care as needed. This position exemplifies professionalism and excellence as a role model for clinical and service standards.
Responsibilities:
• Leads self and others, demonstrating competencies in alignment with OneCHRISTUS expectations.
• Maintains up-to-date professional knowledge and skills in accordance with nursing standards, including regulations and the Patient Bill of Rights.
• Engages in patient experience rounds to assess satisfaction and address service recovery in real-time.
• Identifies obstacles and advocates for resources to champion positive changes in care.
• Prioritizes patient assignments based on individual needs and staff competencies, ensuring efficient task completion.
• Collaborates with the Patient Flow Supervisor to enhance patient flow metrics and appropriate placements.
• Fosters teamwork and encourages constructive conflict resolution within the department.
• Monitors compliance with policies and procedures, providing coaching and support to associates.
• Ensures adherence to infection control practices and application of safety measures.
• Guides staff in patient rounding, effective communication, and pain management strategies.
• Champions National Patient Safety Goals, monitoring adherence and promoting a culture of safety.
• Reassesses patient comfort measures, ensuring timely adjustments and staff compliance.
• Mentors associates in resource management to enhance productivity and competency.
• Follows protocols for IV therapy and medication administration, ensuring compliance and safety.
• Utilizes AIDET principles to create a welcoming environment for patients.
• Ensures workplace safety and follows hazard reporting procedures.
• Responds to unit emergencies, coordinating lifesaving measures and equipment checks.
• Facilitates clear communication regarding patient care with the healthcare team.
• Conducts end-of-shift inventory and addresses any discrepancies promptly.
• Provides detailed handoff communications for patient transitions.
• Assists with scheduling and staffing needs based on patient census and staff availability.
• Participates in new hire selection and training, fostering staff development.
• Engages in performance evaluation processes, providing constructive feedback and counseling when needed.
• Performs clinical duties as required.
Job Requirements:
Education/Skills
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program, with BSN preferred; national specialty certification is a plus.
• Proven knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care for the patient population served.
Experience
• Preferred: 3 years of relevant nursing experience.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
• Current RN license in New Mexico.
• Current BLS, ACLS (or obtain within 6 months), and relevant certifications (PALS, TNCC, CPI) as applicable to the unit.
All associates must obtain required certifications within specified timeframes as per CHRISTUS Health policies.
