Where Did My Interview Go Wrong?


During the course of a lengthy and involved interview process, job seekers are often left wondering where they went wrong, or why things didn’t pan out positively in their favor – with a great job offer at the end and an exciting next chapter to look forward to in their professional career. They are sometimes shocked when they receive the disappointing call or e-mail – “You did not get the position.”

To further contribute to feelings of frustration and confusion, candidates are not always given a specific answer as to why. Unfortunately, Hiring Managers, Recruiters and Human Resources professionals are often unable to offer detailed feedback after interviews – sometimes we are not given all the pieces of the puzzle, or simply aren’t allowed to disclose certain information.

Commonly, feedback might sound along the lines of, “Well, we did not feel it was the right fit for our organization,” or “We are moving forward with another candidate.” Broad and seemingly ambiguous feedback of this nature can be frustrating and contribute to a perceived lack of closure on the candidate’s side, and it can ultimately leave one wondering…
